PAD

Transforming the lives of family's health, wealth and education in developing countries by providing safe, hygienic sanitary products and hygiene education in the name of Jesus.

Period poverty is a global issue affecting those who don't have access to the safe, hygienic menstrual products they need, and/or who are unable to manage their periods with dignity, sometimes due to community stigma.

Around the world the consequences of period poverty also include:

  • 50% fall behind in their studies (70% said their studies were negatively impacted) and in too many instances, drop out of education all together. BBC Research

  • 'Unaffordable,' 'inaccessible' and 'lack of sanitation product knowledge' are reasons given as to why embarrassment and shame impact heavily on their young lives. BBC Research

  • Due to community stigma, some may feel persistent shame and fear during their periods, Action Aid

  • In many developing countries, it's estimated that, half of all women and girls are sometimes forced to use items such as rags, grass and paper. UK Government 2023

What is Amor Europe doing?

AWARENESS

Raising awareness about Period Poverty and giving people, that care, the opportunity to help make it a thing of the past.

GIVING

With your support we will provide the training, materials and equipment needed for local, marginalised, women to set up totally self-sustainable micro-businesses. They will produce, sustain and expand the provision of PAD Packs locally to other villages. Enabling them to sell the PAD Packs at accessible pricing to women and girls. Making enough profit for a salary, to buy materials and save for more sewing machines for more women.

SEWING

Making PAD Packs in the UK to be walked into rural communities in developing countries. We will share skills and the associated education in personal care and product hygiene.

WHAT IS A PAD PACK?

It's a pack of safe, hygienic, washable and re-usable menstrual products that will last one woman or girl 12 months.

Each pack contains:

  • 2 pairs of pants

  • 2 pad holders

  • 6 washable and re-usable pads

How can you get involved?

PAD Sewing

UK PAD Pack production

PAD Party SEWING.jpg

Using your time and talents either as an individual or with family or friends that care about the injustice of Period Poverty.

If you would like to make PAD Packs in your own time, we have stencils and dimensions for each item in the pack, along with instruction videos demonstrating how to make the PAD's, holders and draw string bags.

Alternatively, you may want to consider setting up your own local sewing group. We have one where we live, we get together for what we call PAD Pack Parties. It is a great way to produce PAD Packs and have a lot of fun in the process. Have a look at the video from one of the parties in the 'Additional Resources' section below.

PAD GOING.jpg

Why not join an Expedition, walk in your PAD Packs and help to set up marginalised women in a micro-business, so that they can produce PAD Packs for themselves and for their communities.

This is called a PURE Justice Expedition. A PAD intervention would be delivered in conjunction with a WaSH Expedition. People on the Expedition would be delivering WaSH interventions whilst you and your team would be delivering PAD interventions.

PAD Giving

Finances or production resources

Consider supporting us to help end Period Poverty, creating sustainable micro-businesses which will enable women in developing countries to help themselves and their daughters.

Use the 'Donate' button below to give financially or, perhaps, you could donate resources:

  • Material. Only natural fibres, cotton and brushed cotton sheets and towels are ideal, but not plain white

  • Ribbon for the draw cord

  • Each PAD needs a waterproof backing, this is achieved with PUL fabric (which is expensive)
